THE BEGINNING

July 24, 2011

Cousin Dan Monahan;

I am going to respond to some of the questions from your book outline by email. I did get the outline by email and respond.

Dan; on page 9 Wally (me) was born on July 28, 1950. Dad (Lefty) was born on February 13, 1922, he passed away October 30, 1992, of cardiovascular disease. Mom (Muggs) was born June 22,1926 and passed away April 24, 1995. Him and Mom and sister Cathy are all buried about a mile from my home here in Clackamas, Oregon at Willamette National Cemetery.

They had 5 children, 1) William Wallace (me) Wally living in Clackamas, Oregon

Cathy Ann born December 13, 1951 (deceased)

Dannette Marie born November 24th 1954 ( sister Danni and brother Mike argue every year over who was born on the 24th and who was born on the 29th) both living in Vancouver, Washington

Thomas Michael born November 29th 1958

Martin Joseph born February 21, 1961, currently living in Woodland, Washington.

All born in Anaconda.

The family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1965. I have no children, Danni has 4, one in the Oregon National Guard who served 3 tours in Iraq and is a grandmother, Mike has 2 and is a grandfather, and Marty has 2 sons, One currently serving with the US Army in Georgia, after one tour in Afghanistan; and one playing baseball in Southern California with a farm team of the Texas Rangers.

Mom and Dad were married September 4th 1948. Babs and Mernie stood up for them and Dad always liked to tell the story that he played in a doubleheader on his wedding day.

I know you got the picture off uncle Larry I emailed to you but the Mehrens and Monahan Family Crest's I tried to send apparently did not get through, but I will try again.

The Monahan family crest said that the first Monahan recorded in the United States arrived from Kerry Ireland, aboard the good ship “Waterloo” in New York on April 5, 1848. As a good AOH member a number of us celebrated the 173rd anniversary of her arrival at our meeting house “Kells Irish Pub” here in Portland, and the first Mehrens recorded arrival in New Orleans in 1861 from Bremen Germany.

The caption for the picture on page 10 is, from a Labor Day Picnic in 2010 or 2009 and from left to right is Judy O'connor, good friend and Secretary Treasurer of the local Labor Council, retired now and living in Billings, Montana.

One of our Oregon Senator's, Ron Wyden, who I consider a good friend with his arms around me as I sit in my scooter.

Good friend Lynn Leherbach of the Joint Council of Teamsters.

My wife Judith (Judi) of 13 years next February.

I tried to send you both the Mehrens and Monahan crest's again later.

Wally

***UNCLE HANK BURGESS, GOD REST YOUR SOUL***

AUGUST 2, 2012:

I am definitely not as repetitive (a mere 250 words+-) here on this blog, as I have been on my other; because it has been over a month since my last posting.

AOH REPORT:

AOH MEETING SEPTEMBER 18 AT KELLS NEW BREW PUB.

FAMILY REPORT:

The bad news I have to report since my last posting. It is the loss of Uncle Hank Burgess, so I hope all will keep him and their family in their prayers.

I do think I saw cousin Dennis at the Oregon Ducks football game yesterday.

I am still going to start the survey of the most popular male and female names in the families.

I still have to research the “Wallace” line of the family from Tuam.

This Blog is still 1 page but just under 200 words but, I still seem to be the only “follower” here.

William Wallace “Wally” Mehrens. (well my name is William Wallace, and I consider myself a “BRAVEHEART” even though our Wallace Clan hails from Tuam)

AOH REPORT:

Nothing new, as I am not even sure if we have a meeting in August?

FAMILY REPORT:

The bad news I have to report since my last posting is the loss of cousin Dan's (From Belmullett to Anaconda) sister-in-law. Patricia, so I hope all will keep her and their family in their prayers.

Cousins Bobbie and Dennis Hutzenbieler are home now from their trip to Montana and Dennis is recovering nicely, but still (getting spoiled :-) ! from his open heart surgery.

I missed the Carroll College picnic July 16th here in Portland. :-(

Congratulations, again, to Brother/Uncle Hank Burgess, for such a Wonder full; and well deserved honor. An Endowed Professorship at Carroll College in Helena, and Thank You, also Brother/Cousin Bob for your encouragement, but I will have to wait until next year!

AOH REPORT:

I know I haven't updated this blog in over 3 weeks, I am updating now to report that both nephew Daniel, and brother Joe Esmonde made the last AOH meeting on May 15th

FAMILY REPORT:

And welcome new “nephew/brother” Daniel to the A.O.H.

Congratulations, again, to Brother/Uncle Hank Burgess, for such a Wonder full; and well deserved honor. An Endowed Professorship at Carroll College in Helena, and Thank You, also Brother/Cousin Bob for your encouragement, but I will have to wait until next year!

***A.O.H. UPDATE AND STILL LOOKING FOR FOLLOWERE "2***

April 9, 2012:

I will try NOT to be as repetitive here on this blog as I have been on my other.

AOH REPORT:

I know I haven't updated this blog in 11 day's but, I am updating now to report on the result's of our “Ancestor Ann” celebration and my success at completing my Lenten mission, my receipt of the AOH “by-law's” from cousin Bob and again report brother Chuck Duffy has a trip planned to go to St. Regis, Montana in the future to do something for the Jesuit's and I did send him the information about the Missoula AOH chapter and their web site address. Our next AOH meeting is scheduled for April 17th, at Kell's and we will be discussing, getting ready for Blooms-day in June and the new officers will be taking their post's, also sent an email and will suggest that maybe we plan some sort of program for the upcoming anniversary of the Martering of Saint Patrick on July 1st?

FAMILY REPORT:

Congratulations, again, to Brother/Uncle Hank Burgess, for such a Wonder full; and well deserved honor. An Endowed Professorship at Carroll College in Helena, and Thank You, also Brother/Cousin Bob for your encouragement, but I will have to wait until next year!

I did celebrate Easter at sister Danni's in Vancouver and it was wonderful, as usual. I also did celebrate the 164th anniversary of the 1st known Monahan to arrive in the U.S. (ANN) on April 5th 1848,in New York City; fleeing the Great Hunger.
As for the various places this auspicious occasion was celebrated at 6pm DST, I was at home preparing for Mass and I also have confirmations that at the same time in the states of Washington, Montana, California, Texas, and Hawaii.

I am going to start a survey of the most popular male and female names in the families.

I still have to research the “Wallace” line of the family from Tuam.

***7 DAY'S UNTIL OUR 164TH ANNIVERSARY***

March 29, 2012:

I will try NOT to be as repetitive here on this blog as I have been on my other, but what is it YOU gave up for Lent?

AOH REPORT:

I know I haven't updated this blog since the 21st but, I am updating now to report on the result's of my attempt to become President of our Portland A.O.H. Chapter and the result's of our last meeting, and while I was disappointed; I am not dejected. I will also report brother Chuck Duffy has a trip planned to go to St. Regis, Montana in the future to do something for the Jesuit's and I did send him the information about the Missoula AOH chapter and their web site address.

We also had Portland City Council candidate, MARY NOLAN at our last meeting and she was GREAT.

I am posting today because we are 1 week from celebrating the 164th anniversary of the 1st known Monahan to arrive in the U.S. (ANN) on April 5th 1848,in New York City; fleeing the Great Hunger.
As for the various places this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at 6pm DST, I will be here in Portland at Kell's Irish pub downtown, I also have confirmations that at the same time in the states of Washington, Montana, California, Texas, Hawaii and maybe even Nevada
.

I don't know how many family members received the cousin Dan Monahan family history book “From Belmullet to Anaconda” but it is an absolutely absorbing book and I bring this up for 3 reasons, 1) cousin Dan will be the family member celebrating on April 5th in Hawaii, 2) He will also be celebrating his lovely wife's 5th, I think, anniversary of being cancer free and 3) Provided I can figure out how to do it, I am going to start a survey of the most popular male and female names in the families.

I still have to research the “Wallace” line of the family from Tuam.

This Blog is still 1 page but just over 400+- words but, I still seem to be the only “follower” here, so I guess William is off to an early lead of family first names. :-)!
