THE BEGINNING

July 24, 2011

Cousin Dan Monahan;

I am going to respond to some of the questions from your book outline by email. I did get the outline by email and respond.

Dan; on page 9 Wally (me) was born on July 28, 1950. Dad (Lefty) was born on February 13, 1922, he passed away October 30, 1992, of cardiovascular disease. Mom (Muggs) was born June 22,1926 and passed away April 24, 1995. Him and Mom and sister Cathy are all buried about a mile from my home here in Clackamas, Oregon at Willamette National Cemetery.

They had 5 children, 1) William Wallace (me) Wally living in Clackamas, Oregon

Cathy Ann born December 13, 1951 (deceased)

Dannette Marie born November 24th 1954 ( sister Danni and brother Mike argue every year over who was born on the 24th and who was born on the 29th) both living in Vancouver, Washington

Thomas Michael born November 29th 1958

Martin Joseph born February 21, 1961, currently living in Woodland, Washington.

All born in Anaconda.

The family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1965. I have no children, Danni has 4, one in the Oregon National Guard who served 3 tours in Iraq and is a grandmother, Mike has 2 and is a grandfather, and Marty has 2 sons, One currently serving with the US Army in Georgia, after one tour in Afghanistan; and one playing baseball in Southern California with a farm team of the Texas Rangers.

Mom and Dad were married September 4th 1948. Babs and Mernie stood up for them and Dad always liked to tell the story that he played in a doubleheader on his wedding day.

I know you got the picture off uncle Larry I emailed to you but the Mehrens and Monahan Family Crest's I tried to send apparently did not get through, but I will try again.

The Monahan family crest said that the first Monahan recorded in the United States arrived from Kerry Ireland, aboard the good ship “Waterloo” in New York on April 5, 1848. As a good AOH member a number of us celebrated the 173rd anniversary of her arrival at our meeting house “Kells Irish Pub” here in Portland, and the first Mehrens recorded arrival in New Orleans in 1861 from Bremen Germany.

The caption for the picture on page 10 is, from a Labor Day Picnic in 2010 or 2009 and from left to right is Judy O'connor, good friend and Secretary Treasurer of the local Labor Council, retired now and living in Billings, Montana.

One of our Oregon Senator's, Ron Wyden, who I consider a good friend with his arms around me as I sit in my scooter.

Good friend Lynn Leherbach of the Joint Council of Teamsters.

My wife Judith (Judi) of 13 years next February.

I tried to send you both the Mehrens and Monahan crest's again later.

Wally

AOH REPORT:

I HOPE MY PHOTO'S MADE IT OVER HERE?

I have ordered MY issue of the “History of the AOH in America”, but I still have to respond to their request.

COUSIN BROTHER/BOB WAS INSTALLED AS AOH PRESIDENT IN ANACONDA, BY MONTANA STATE PRESIDENT AOH BROTHER/COUSIN TOM PAHUT, and I did get another photo of his installation to take over to the photo shop.

This is my short report on the “Unite Ireland” issue. I am going to put the “Portland AOH” facebook page in here, and the wikipedia link to “Monahans, Texas”.

I still think we need a few OREGONIANS on Father McManus's “Congressional Friends” list. We must never forget the Ballymurphy Massacre of 1971, (40 years searching for justice). We need to realize along with a number of Irish Catholic's, including a priest that were assassinated that day there were also a number of Northern Irish Protestants. This battle for justice that is being waged here in the U.S.A. by father McManus is also being waged in Belfast Northern Ireland by a heroic Belfast protestant named Raymond McCord Sr., whose son was also assassinated. I have received Father McManus's book and it was signed by our New Assistant G.P., and I now have a better understanding of commissioner Fritz's racist Animosity towards the Irish and apparently New Jersey has it's own racist. I did send Father McManus a check to join his efforts and he sent me a thank you and I am now a Congressional friend of Father McManus, and yes Holmie, I do have your letter to join.

I do have MY signed copy of from Belmullet to Anaconda and it is super cool, and based on what cousin Dan found out about the Monahan's, and what I was told about the Wallace's (Gramma Bossie family) being from Tuam, north of Galway also Bab's and Mernie's kids and Mom and Dad's kids may share more gene's than we even thought, and I have begun to update my Mehrens/Monahan blog. Brother Marcraft and Brother Duffy, get ready for your surprise!

I did get my new issue of “The National Hibernian Digest and there was a notice of the passing of an AOH brother from Rhode Island with the name of Edward P. Monahan Sr.; God rest his Soul.

I AM ALSO GOING TO TRY TO GET A SURVEY TOOL TO TRACK NAMES. MALE FIRST AND OR MIDDLE, FEMALE; FIRST AND OR MIDDLE. I'M THINKING SO FAR WILLIAM AND ROBERT LEAD IN THE MALE LIST, AND ANN, MARIE AND CATHERINE LEAD THE FEMALE LIST.

Today's blog is 1 page and less than 400 words.
